    7 saloon

The 7A was the first model in a vehicle line manufactured up to 1957. Despite criticism on its launch on 19 April 1934, the model experienced constant success throughout its career.

The first Traction Avant was presented to the brand?s dealerships on 21 March, with the first customer receiving his order on 7 May. This truly revolutionary car featured a wealth of innovations all wrapped in a single, coherent package.

The vehicle body and engine are timeless design masterpieces that have inspired a number of manufacturers. For the first time in history, passengers simply got in to their car rather than ?climbing? in to it, since the 7A had no running board.

Volume production of a front-wheel drive vehicle made the French word for front-wheel drive, ?traction?, synonymous with Citro?n. This system, together with the torsion-bar suspension, paved the way for other manufacturers. The launch price of the 7 was 17,700 francs on 15 April 1934 for a 4-seater saloon with an interior luggage boot.

    7 S roadster

One month after the 7, Citro?n released the high-performance version, the 7S, which went on to acquire its definitive name, the ?light 11? (?11 l?gère?) at the 1934 Paris Motor Show.

Unlike the 7, which only came in saloon form, the 7S was available as a cabriolet and a hard-top cabriolet, with two seats in the front and two in the dickey.

The 7S could be told apart from the 7 by its larger tyres. Otherwise, the two models had the same external characteristics: horns fitted on the bumper, bonnet louvers opening in the same direction, two air intakes in the cowl, rear number plate fitted to the bumper, two fuel-tank caps, and two rear lights.

At the 1934 Paris Motor Show, Citro?n exhibited the prototype of a red front-wheel drive sports car bearing the inscription ?The front-wheel drive, 8-cylinder Citro?n 22 cabriolet?.

Several body styles were planned: a 6-seater saloon, 3-seater coup? de ville, cabriolet and hard-top cabriolet, a ?long? 9-seater family version and a ?long? 5-seater coupe.

The 22 CV roadster was advertised as the world?s safest, fastest volume production vehicle but never made it past the prototype stage. It remains the dream car of collectors everywhere.

        11 "familiale"|

Citro?n unveiled the 11 at the 1934 Paris Motor Show, five months after the launch of the 7A. It had a 78 x 100 engine, a 7 body stretched and widened, and came in six versions, including the ?Familiale? (family car), which shortly before World War II switched names to ?Limousine?.

A six-, eight- or nine-seater according to trim level, this was the last word as far as number of passengers was concerned, making it the car for large families. It featured a wide three-seater at the front and at the back, with the option of two or three comfortable folding seats between them.

One of these folding seats was later scrapped, and the ?Familiale? became an eight- instead of a nine-seater, while the long ?Limousine? was fitted with separate, saloon front seats, becoming a five-seater.

          11 L Hard-top cabriolet|
Among the front-wheel drive Tractions, the first 11 L models (?L? for ?l?gères? or ?light?) were presented at the 1934 Paris Motor Show. They replaced the 7S and sported similar features.

The 11 L models shared the same body features as the 7S, boasting two ventilation louvers now opening in opposite directions and horns fitted in the wings. The ?light? models were available in saloon, hard-top and cabriolet form.

Manufactured from June 1934, in October 1935 the 11 L hard-top cabriolet was given more curvaceous front wings, domed-glass headlamps, a painted grille and registration plates on the left rear wing. It had two seats at the front and two in the dickey, and a 23,000-franc price tag in 1936.

            15 saloon

The 15 made its debut in June 1938 and was presented at that year?s Paris Motor Show. It had the same bore and stroke as the 11 and 22 models but boasted a six-cylinder powerplant with 2,687-cm3 capacity, providing it with performance equal to its contemporary Renault and Ford rivals.

With roadholding that remains outstanding to this day, it is no surprise the 15 was quickly dubbed ?Queen of the Road?. It is still much sought after by collectors. Customers at the time were bona fide connoisseurs who appreciated the vehicle?s comfort, speed and driving ease.

Pre-war production was limited to 2,000 units with a retail price for the 5- or 6-seater saloon at 36,300 francs.

              15 cabriolet

Unlike the 4-cylinder versions, the 15 was shipped exclusively in saloon and family versions, and only two cabriolets were built ? one for the Michelin family and one for the Countess de Portes.

Two others were produced in 1946 and 1947 using specially built body shells recovered from the Javel plant by a Paris dealer.

The only outside feature distinguishing it from the 11 CV cabriolet was its longer bonnet.
