Kaj vse boste novinarji in ostali, ki imate kaj pod palcem letos videli v Parizu na C. ötantu.

CitroŽn: a key player on the LCV market

In first-half 2004, CitroŽn increased its share of the European LCV market by more than 2% to 10.7% , with 106,000 vehicles sold.
The Marque owes this achievement to its diversified range of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) through which it is able to meet the many and varied needs of professional customers.

Maintaining the momentum of its product policy, CitroŽn is premiering two LCVs at the 2004 Paris Motor Show: the new C4 Fleet and C3 1.4i CNG. Once again, CitroŽn is demonstrating its ability to bring customers a range of modern light commercial vehicles offering the same level of onboard comfort as a passenger vehicle.
Environmental protection Ė particularly reduced CO2 emissions Ė is also a key component of CitroŽn's strategy. The development of vehicles running on compressed natural gas is a perfect fit with this strategy.

Following the launch of the C3 Fleet in 2002, the CitroŽn offering was further extended by the fleet version of the new C2 at end 2003.

CitroŽn's light commercial vehicle range Ė comprising the C15, Berlingo, Jumpy/Dispatch and Jumper/Relay Ė was upgraded at the beginning of the year with the remodelling of the Jumpy. A vehicle of thoroughly modern styling, the Jumpy is both a commercial vehicle, in terms of accessibility, volume and payload, and a passenger car in terms of interior design, comfort and equipment.

In April, the Jumper gained a new 146 bhp 2.8 HDi direct-injection common-rail engine. This engine Ė the most powerful in the range Ė extends the offering.

CitroŽn also maintains close links with many approved coachbuilders. Through this policy, it has been able to establish itself on many highly specific markets: e.g. refrigerated vehicles, ambulances, camping cars, transport, deep cabs, tipper trucks and pick-ups.

Fleet vehicles: the C2, C3, Xsara Estate and soon the C4

Intended for professional use, these "fleet-based" models feature the same equipment, benefits and services as the vehicles from which they are derived.
The range comprises three vehicles: the Xsara, C3, C2, and soon the C4, CitroŽn's new offering. Complementary in all respects, they each have the specific assets necessary to meet a full range of customer needs and expectations.

C4 Fleet: style and on-board comfort

At the Paris Motor Show, CitroŽn is presenting the fleet version (converted vehicle) of the C4 Coupť on the CV stand. This new mid-range offering will naturally be associated with the C4 Saloon (depending on the country). A saloon and a coupť: two innovators in terms of both styling and features.

The C4 Saloon and the C4 Coupť each have their own distinctive style. However, they share the same generous interior space, contributing to the comfort of the passenger compartment.
The saloon has rounded forms, while the coupť favours a sharper line. Both vehicles share smooth, fluid lines for outstanding aerodynamics, one of CitroŽnís traditional strengths (Cd of 0.28 for the coupť and 0.29 for the saloon). The two vehicles also share the same interior space.

The on-board comfort of the C4 is enhanced by innovative functions designed for easy, relaxed driving.
For example, the multifunctional fixed-centred controls steering wheel brings the main comfort functions and driving aids within easy reach. This ergonomic feature, which places the emphasis on easy-to-use controls, promotes driving pleasure.
The steering wheel is associated with a translucent instrument cluster of new design, which displays driving information (vehicle speed, speed limiter and cruise control settings, etc.) on a translucent strip in the centre of the dashboard. The display contrast adjusts instantly to ambient light conditions to ensure a clear read-out at all times.
Concerning the engine range, the C4 Fleet offering will initially comprise a 1.4i 16V petrol engine and an HDi 92 diesel engine.

C2 Ė compact design and dynamic performance

CitroŽn unveiled the C2 at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The C2 fleet model has now joined the LCV range. The fleet version maintains the dynamic styling and road manners of the passenger car, as well as its assets in terms of comfort and safety.

The fleet version of the C2 is available with a choice of two engines: the 1.1i petrol engine developing 44,1 kW (61 bhp) and the1.4 HDi diesel engine developing 50 kW (70 bhp).

The vehicle features a load floor, a mid-height load stop as standard and an optional high load stop in the form of a grille. The useful volume is 539 litres under the parcel shelf and 840 litres (VDA standard) to the roof.

    C3 Ė Well-being and versatility

In the city and on the open road, the C3 is eminently versatile. The innovative architectural design is reflected in the external width (1.67 m) and height (1.52 m), which are rare for a vehicle of this length (3.85 m). These proportions make the C3 exceptionally roomy for a vehicle of compact design, with a loading volume of 1,310 litres and a payload of between 479 kg and 485 kg.
The C3 features a driving position of excellent design, with a height-adjustable driverís seat and height/reach-adjustable steering wheel as standard. Both features are rare in this segment.

The range is structured around two levels of trim and two engines: the 1.4 HDi 50 kW (70 bhp DIN) diesel engine and the 1.1i 44 kW (61 bhp DIN) petrol engine.

Like the passenger car version, the C3 fleet model offers top-level active and passive safety features, including ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency braking assistance. The C3 also features four airbags and a structure designed to satisfy the most stringent impact criteria.

    Xsara Ė practical and spacious

Available in an estate version, the Xsara Fleet is an eminently practical vehicle. Identical to the passenger car version in terms of road behaviour, comfort and equipment, the Xsara Fleet offers generous loading volume of 1,535 litres.
Available with the 50 kW HDi diesel engine developing 70 bhp, it is a strong performer on the road.
With a load length of 1.66 m and a payload of more than 500 kg, the Xsara Fleet is able to satisfy the most demanding customers.

Depending on the countries, and in compliance with administrative and fiscal legislation, the CitroŽn range of fleet vehicles may also include the Xsara Picasso Fleet, the C5 Estate Fleet and the C8 Fleet.

Light commercial vehicles: C15, Berlingo, Jumpy and Jumper

CitroŽn offers one of the most complete range of light commercial vehicles on the market. The main vehicles in the range, alongside the new Jumpy, are the CitroŽn C15, Berlingo and Jumper. These vehicles offer payloads of between 600 kg and 1,800 kg and load volumes of between 2.67 m3and 14 m3.

The C15 celebrates its 20th anniversary: an exceptionally long career

The C15 Ė a small light commercial vehicle Ė has been driving around town and countryside for almost twenty years, a period in which it has enjoyed continued success. This exceptionally long career can be explained by the qualities of the vehicle. Economical, robust, and with a generous load volume, the C15 has all the essential features required by this type of commercial vehicle. It has built up a loyal customer base made up primarily of self-employed people, shopkeepers and farmers. When it was launched, the C15 offered the same level of onboard comfort as a saloon. This principle has become the rule for all the vehicles in CitroŽn's commercial range.

The C15 Ė forerunner of today's small, modern commercial vehicles Ė has been on the market since 1984. It continues to be remarkably successful with more than 1,200,000 units sold. This exceptionally long career can be explained by the vehicle's economy in terms of both selling price and running costs. Right from the start, its convenience won the loyalty of the most demanding customers. Easy to handle and robust, the C15 is now available with a 1.9 D engine developing 43 kW (60 bhp), adapted from the Berlingo. It has an overall length of 3.99 m, a load length of 1.64 m, a load volume of 2.67 m3 and a payload of 600 kg or 765 kg.

The C15 is currently manufactured at the Vigo plant at an output of 115 vehicles/daily. It is sold in many European countries (including France, UK, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy) as well as in worldwide export markets.

    Berlingo: robust styling with status

With the Berlingo, CitroŽn has shown that it is possible for a commercial vehicle to combine top-level functional qualities (loading volume and payload, robust strength, economy) with attractive styling and a user friendly design. The Berlingo has enjoyed continuous success since its market debut in 1996. The one millionth vehicle left the assembly lines at the Vigo plant in Spain in September 2003.

The Berlingo is compact, easy to handle and extremely convenient with its sliding side door(s). With its wide range of equipment and saloon-style driving position, the vehicle interior offers all the qualities of a tourer. Airbags, ABS, air conditioning, quality audio equipment and numerous stowage compartments make life easier and more enjoyable for the occupants.

Depending on the country, the Berlingo is available with a choice of two petrol engines Ė 1.1i (44 kW EEC/60 bhp DIN) and 1.4i (55 kW EEC/75 bhp DIN) Ė as well as two dual-fuel engines: the 1.4i LPG (53 kW EEC/72 bhp DIN) and the 1.4i CNG (48 kW EEC/68 bhp DIN). It is also available with a choice of two diesel engines: the 1.9 D (51 kW/71 bhp) and the 2.0 HDi (66 kW/90 bhp).
With an overall length of 4.14 m, the Berlingo has a load length of 1.70 m that can be extended to 2.10 m thanks to the multi-function passenger seat. It has a payload of between 600 and 800 kg depending on the version, and a load volume of 3 m3.

    Jumpy: a new look

This new version maintains and consolidates the image of the Jumpy as a "reference" for performance and driveability, while also endowing it with updated styling, increased comfort and top-end safety features.
As a result, the New Jumpy is both a commercial vehicle, in terms of accessibility, volume and payload, and a passenger car in terms of interior design, comfort and equipment.

Available with a choice of five engines depending on the country (2.0i 16V, 1.9 Diesel, 95 bhp 2.0 HDi, 110 bhp 2.0 HDi, 110 bhp 2.0 HDi 16V), the Jumpy range includes four body styles: panel vans and window vans for transporting goods, combis for transporting people, and flatbed cabs for conversions.

The vans and flatbed cabs fall into the CV (commercial vehicle) category. They are available in two levels of trim and two wheelbase lengths: 2.82 (short) or 3.22 (long).
The van versions feature a payload of between 815 kg and 900 kg and a load volume of 4 m3 or 5 m3.

The combis fall into the PC (passenger car) category. They are available in two levels of trim, Comfort or Luxury (depending on the country), and two versions: 5/6 seats or 8/9 seats. Depending on the versions, boot volume varies between 600 litres and 3.95 m3 and payload between 654 kg and 735 kg.

    Jumper: new impetus

Aimed at the top end of the light commercial vehicle market, the range structure of the CitroŽn Jumper is designed to meet the needs of different professional activities. It comprises panel and window vans, platform and chassis cabs, and combi vans for transporting people.

In April 2004, CitroŽn launched a version of the Jumper equipped with the new direct-injection common-rail 146 bhp HDi 2.8 engine. The Jumper HDi 146 a highly driveable and responsive engine, with torque of 310 Nm available from 1,500 rpm. This engine Ė the most powerful in the range Ė extends the offering.
Coinciding with the launch, the Jumper gained new body colours, new interior trim and additional equipment.

The Jumper HDi 146 extends the range of panel vans, single and double chassis cabs. The high torque available from the lowest engine speeds ensures a more relaxed drive without too many gear changes.
With a capacity of 2,798 cm3, the 2.8 HDi engine develops maximum power of 107 kW (146 bhp) at 3,600 rpm with torque of 310 Nm at 1,500 rpm. This engine is based on the 127 bhp 2.8 HDi engine, but features a variable geometry turbocharger and specific injection parameters. It is coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

All the HDi engines (86, 100, 127 and 146 bhp) require servicing at 30,000 km.

The modern interior layout is also highly appealing, with an ergonomic driving position designed to satisfy the most demanding professional customers.
The Jumper range is structured around three total laden weights (2.9 tonnes, 3.3 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes) that give each model its commercial name: 29, 33 or 35. It offers a choice of four wheelbases (between 2.85 m and 3.70 m, with a 4.05 m version available on chassis cabs only) and seven body styles obtained by combining these wheelbases with the four possible body heights of between 2.15 m and 2.87 m.
As a result, the Jumper offers a variety of useful load volumes, ranging between 7.5 m3 and 14 m3.
For vans, interior height ranges between 1.56 m and 2.28 m, and interior length between 2.51 m and 3.36 m.

In addition to the HDi 146 engine, the Jumper is available with the following engines: 2.0i petrol (80 kW/110 bhp), 2.0i dual fuel petrol/LPG (80 kW/110 bhp), 2.0i CNG (70 kW/95 bhp), and three diesel engines HDi 86 (64 kW), HDi 100 (74 kW) and HDi 127 (93.5 kW).
This last engine is also available with an auto-adaptive automatic gearbox with sequential control.

The Jumper is the only vehicle in its range segment to offer such features as:
ē a rear obstacle detection system,
ē a TV camera to monitor reversing manoeuvres from the navigation screen
ē a seat with adjustable cushioning.

A vehicle of impeccable road manners, the new Jumper features a range of safety-related options such as traction control and a passenger airbag.

Alternative energy sources: compressed natural gas, LPG and electricity

C3 1.4i CNG: premiering at the Paris Motor Show

At the 2004 Paris Motor Show, CitroŽn is presenting the C3 1.4i CNG, scheduled for launch in 2005. CitroŽn believes in the development potential of vehicles running on compressed natural gas. This fuel offers an alternative to petroleum products. The significant global reserves and environmental qualities of natural gas make it a fuel for the future. Natural gas emits around 20% fewer CO2 emissions, with no sulphur oxides or lead.
The development of home supply stations is an area that offers real potential for increasing sales of natural gas vehicles since it allows both private and professional customers to recharge their vehicles in their own homes. These systems already exist. They meet the needs of professionals and municipalities with fleets of between two and ten vehicles, who are thus able to recharge their vehicles themselves, in their usual parking place.

The 1.4i engine develops 48 kW (68 bhp) at 5,500 rpm and torque of 110 Nm at 3,400 rpm. Gas is injected directly into the cylinder head via four specific injectors. This system of multipoint sequential injection optimises consumption while ensuring high levels of performance and driving pleasure.
Simple to use, the vehicles run on natural gas. The engine switches automatically to petrol mode when the gas tank is empty.

The Berlingo 1.4i and Jumper 2.0i are also available in dual fuel petrol/CNG versions. The gas tank offers an additional range of 270 km on the Jumper (standard combined cycle, vehicle at half-load), and more than 250 km for the Berlingo.

Similar purchasing prices for petrol and CNG models

With passenger car models, the cost of the compressed natural gas system is offset to a great extent by the tax credit of Ä1,524 (FF 10,000) granted to buyers of a vehicle running on natural gas, and by free car registration in many regions of France. This credit is increased to Ä2,300 if the buyer agrees to destroy his old car (based on certain conditions).
Commercial models running on compressed natural gas also enjoy a range of tax benefits, including the full reimbursement of VAT on fuel, total exemption from the tax on company cars and exceptional amortisation of the car over a period of twelve months.
These different aids, combined with attractive fuel prices, give the C3, the Berlingo and the Jumper a real cost advantage, while lowering emissions of CO2.

    A growing vehicle parc

Large numbers of compressed natural gas vehicles already exist in Italy Ė almost 410,000 vehicles and 450 stations Ė and in Germany Ė 19,000 cars and 400 stations. Figures are expected to grow strongly in France and other European countries.

Berlingo and Jumper LPG: economy and environmental protection

CitroŽn brings customers an LPG offering comprising the Berlingo 1.4i and the Jumper 2.0i. LPG offers an attractive solution to customer expectations in terms of economy-in-use and environmental protection.

In LPG mode, the 1.4i and 2.0i engines use a multipoint gas sequential injection system to control the injection of fuel into each cylinder. LPG technology guarantees high-precision fuel injection and perfect combustion for maximum driving pleasure.

Power and torque levels are similar to those of petrol engines. The 1.4i LPG engine develops 53 kW EEC (72 bhp DIN) at 5,500 rpm for torque of 113 Nm at 3,400 rpm. The 2.0i LPG engine develops 80 kW EEC (110 bhp DIN) at 5,000 rpm for torque of 168 Nm at 3,400 rpm.

Moreover, the Berlingo maintains its generous load volumes (3 m3) thanks to a 36-litre toric tank that fits into the housing usually occupied by the spare wheel.

LPG vehicles enjoy the same financial aids as CNG vehicles.

    Berlingo Electric: zero pollutant emissions

Building on the experience acquired in electric vehicles since 1989 with the C15, C25, AX and Saxo, CitroŽn is offering an electric version of the Berlingo commercial vehicle. Used primarily as an urban delivery vehicle, like the Berlingos taking part in the Elcidis project in La Rochelle, this vehicle slots into the range alongside the internal-combustion cars. Zero CO2 emissions and noise-free operation ensure reduced environmental impact.

The motor of the Berlingo Electric features maximum power of 28 kW between 1,600 rpm and 5,500 rpm for torque of 180 Nm between 0 and 1,600 rpm. The vehicle has a top speed of 95 km/h and a range of almost 95 km (standard combined cycle). The Berlingo Electric has a payload of 500 kg and an effective volume of 3 m3, just like the conventional versions.

    A specific example of application

CitroŽn is supplying Berlingo Electrics for the European programme Elcidis (ELectric CIty Distribution Systems). The programme brings together six cities that wish to test new systems of urban distribution. Elcidis aims to respond to urban supply problems in two ways.

The first solution is to organise a city-centre distribution system using electric or hybrid vehicles to obtain considerable reductions in atmospheric pollution and noise. The second is to develop a high-performance delivery system based on the rational use of compact vehicles to supply city centres and the organisation of deliveries through urban distribution centres.

The six European cities, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Erlangan, the Lombardy region (Milan), Stavanger and La Rochelle have introduced a total of 63 electric or hybrid vehicles.
La Rochelle introduced the service in February 2001, with six Berlingos and one Saxo. It is already reporting delivery "peaks" of more than 500 packages distributed daily. The average number of daily rounds is fifteen.

    Vehicle conversions

CitroŽn works with a number of authorised coachbuilders and converters. These converters are responsible for converting or integrating different equipment or modules using the complete or partially built commercial vehicles delivered to them.
These conversions, which can be made to order if required, are always carried out in accordance with the highest standards of quality. The coachbuilders and converters are CitroŽn approved, which means that end customers receive products that comply with the brand's standards.
Most customer requirements fall into one of several broad categories, as listed below.

    Building and public works

Applications for the building and public works sector are numerous and can be finely targeted to demand.
The main conversions include deep cabs (up to 9 seats), systems with an additional folding rear seat, tipper trucks, hinged sides and pick-up versions.

    Large volumes

This type of modification significantly increases effective volume. Different configurations are possible: increased length or height, overhead storage, modified doors, etc. On the Jumper, up to 22 m3 in additional volume can be created.

    Insulation and refrigeration

Insulated or refrigerated units can be built into vans or fitted separately on chassis cabs or flatbed cabs.
Available volumes range from 1.7 m3 for the C15 to 13 m3 for the Jumper.

    Shops and services

Many configurations exist: "shop" vehicles are designed primarily for delivery rounds and markets, and frequently feature side openings and tailgates. These vehicles are intended for butchers, bakers, etc. and have an interior layout that corresponds to their line of activity.
Hearses and funeral vehicles make up another major category.
Also, the interior layout of many vehicles may be modified for specific areas of activity such as plumbing and breakdown services, car carriers and armour-plated vehicles).

    Medical assistance

Medical assistance vehicles are many and varied. They include ambulances and other emergency vehicles (fire tenders, etc.).

    Transportation of people

This category comprises two main sectors. First, vehicles designed to transport people with reduced mobility, in which case the main modifications involve the rear layout of the vehicle. And second, conversions to create a vehicle able to seat up to 20 passengers, including the driver.

    Transportation of animals

This category mainly concerns vehicles adapted to transport horses. Several interior trim options are available.

    Miscellaneous equipment

Various items of equipment found in non-converted vehicles can be adapted as necessary.
    These include:
    4-wheel drives
fleet versions derived from passenger car versions
specific equipment for drivers with reduced mobility

    Camping cars

Many Jumper conversions exist for the design of camping cars that satisfy the wide range of requirements expressed by this customer base.

      New at CitroŽn

      CITROňN C4 SALOON OR COUPE:
      CITROňN'S NEW MID-RANGE OFFERING

CitroŽn is unveiling the C4 Saloon and Coupť, two vehicles that combine innovative styling with original features.

The C4 Saloon combines fluid lines and clean contours. Sporting smooth protective bodywork and unique exterior styling, the C4 embodies prestige and elegance.

The C4 Coupť expresses CitroŽnís vision of dynamic coupť design. Elegant proportions and fluid lines create a vehicle of harmonious design with an underlying promise of power. Combining a long front wheelbase and overhang with a short rear overhang, the profile of the C4 Coupť expresses the pursuit of aerodynamic perfection.

Alongside a common focus on aerodynamic performance, one of CitroŽnís traditional strengths, the two cars also share the same generous interior volumes, contributing to on-board comfort and well-being. This impression is further enhanced by innovative functions designed for easy, relaxed driving. For example, the multifunctional fixed-centred controls steering wheel brings the main comfort functions and driving aids within easy reach. It is associated with an innovative instrument cluster which displays information on a translucent strip in the centre of the dashboard. The display contrast adjusts to ambient light conditions to ensure a clear read-out at all times.
All these advanced functions create a relaxed atmosphere in the passenger compartment. The attention to detail also contributes to the pleasant feel of the cabin, with the scented air freshener styled to match the interior, and the laminated side windows for acoustic comfort.

The C4 also features a wide range of modern, high-performance driving aids, such as a lane departure warning system, Xenon dual-function directional headlamps, front and rear parking assistance and a speed limiter.

The C4 reflects CitroŽnís commitment to innovative and appealing cars.

C3 STOP & START AND SENSODRIVE: UNIVERSALLY AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES FOR LOWER CONSUMPTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

This C3 Stop & Start combines two advanced technologies: the SensoDrive automated gearbox and an electronically controlled reversible alternator.
The first volume-produced vehicle to be equipped with this innovation, the C3 Stop & Start contributes to quality of life in the city by reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by around 10% over an urban cycle. It also reduces noise, since the engine cuts out whenever the vehicle stops.
With the C3 Stop and Start, the engine stops just before the vehicle comes to a standstill (traffic lights, traffic jams, etc.). It starts again automatically and instantaneously as soon as the driver takes his foot off the brake pedal to move forward again.

      C3 1.4i CNG: A NEW ALTERNATIVE

At the 2004 Paris Motor Show, CitroŽn is presenting the C3 1.4i CNG in its passenger and LCV versions. This new model, scheduled for launch in 2005, forms part of CitroŽnís global environmental protection strategy, built around two main objectives: lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and quality of life in the city.
The engine runs primarily on natural gas. It switches automatically to petrol mode when the gas tank is empty.
CitroŽn believes in the development potential of vehicles running on compressed natural gas. The significant global reserves and environmental qualities of natural gas make it a fuel for the future. It produces around 20% fewer CO2 emissions than petrol, with no sulphur oxides or lead.

        CITROňN C4
        A SALOON, A COUP…
        CITROňNíS NEW MID-RANGE OFFERING

CitroŽn is premiering the C4 Ė its new mid-range offering Ė at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. The C4 is available in saloon and coupť form: two vehicles of innovative styling and features.

A COUP… AND A SALOON: DIFFERENT STYLES, SAME INTERIOR SPACE

The C4 Saloon and the C4 Coupť each have their own distinctive style. However, they share the same generous interior space, contributing to the comfort of the passenger compartment.
The saloon has rounded forms, while the coupť favours a sharper line. Both vehicles share smooth, fluid lines for outstanding aerodynamics, one of CitroŽnís traditional strengths (Cd of 0.28 for the coupť and 0.29 for the saloon). The two vehicles also share the same interior space. Passengers at the rear enjoy a generous level of knee room, which is among the best in the segment (17 cm when the front seat is pushed back to the maximum).

INNOVATIONS FOR ONBOARD COMFORT AND RELAXED DRIVING

The C4 also features a wide array of modern and efficient driving aids. The lane departure warning system is a major step forward in driving safety. At speeds of over 80 kph, this system warns the driver if the car crosses a continuous or broken lane marking, if the indicator has not been activated.
The C4 introduces a range of equipment usually found only further up the market, including Xenon dual-function directional headlamps and front parking assistance. A speed limiter and low tyre-pressure detection Ė two features rarely seen in this segment Ė are also available.
All these advanced functions create a relaxed atmosphere in the passenger compartment, further enhanced by the scented air freshener styled to match the interior, and the laminated side windows for acoustic comfort. In terms of practical features, the C4 features a host of stowage compartments including a boot foldaway partition to hold objects firmly in place.
On-board comfort also means relaxed driving in all circumstances. With its advanced equipment and features, the C4 offers high-level active and passive safety, along with polished road manners.
In particular, the C4 boasts the worldís first shape-optimised driver airbag. This feature, which relies on the fixed central section of the steering wheel, improves driver protection. Also, its design reflects efforts to protect pedestrians more effectively in the event of frontal impact.

A WIDE RANGE OF ENGINES FROM LAUNCH

The C4 is available with a wide range of engines from launch. It offers a choice of five petrol engines: the 1.4i 16V (90 bhp DIN), the 1.6i 16V (110 bhp DIN), the 2.0i 16V (138 bhp DIN), the new 2.0i 16V (143 bhp DIN) recently introduced on the C5 and available with the C4 Saloon and the 2.0i 16V (180 bhp DIN), installed on a CitroŽn vehicle Ė the C4 Coupť Ė for the first time. The C4ís three HDi diesel engines are all equipped with second-generation common-rail. The HDi 92 is making its debut on a PSA Peugeot CitroŽn Group vehicle, while the new HDi 110 and HDi 138 engines were recently introduced in the CitroŽn range.
Most of these engines already satisfy the Euro IV emission standard. With the C4, CitroŽn is also expanding the range of vehicles equipped with the diesel particulate filter system (DPFS). This technology adds to the advantages of HDi engines in terms of environmental protection.
The C4 reflects CitroŽn commitment to bringing customers innovative and appealing cars.
By offering saloon and coupť versions, CitroŽn is pursuing a strategy initiated in the supermini segment, where it has three complementary offers (C2, C3 et C3 Pluriel), each with distinctive styling to address wide-ranging customer tastes.

        TWO CARS OF DISTINCTIVE STYLING

The CitroŽn C4 is available as both a saloon and a coupť.
Boasting distinctive styling, each in its own register, these two vehicles are intended for customers of differing requirements.

THE C4 STYLE: FLUID LINES AND STRONG AERODYNAMICS

The C4 Saloon and the C4 Coupť have very different styling, while also sharing a number of features that identify them as members of the same family.
The style of the C4 is characterised by decisive architectural choices. Its height is limited in order to optimise aerodynamics, road behaviour and fuel consumption. In consequence, power and fluid design lines emerge as the key traits qualifying the C4.
However, the real signature of the C4 can be read in its strong exterior features, some of which are common to both the saloon and the coupť.
These distinctive signs can be seen on the front end in particular, with the chrome chevrons spanning the full width of the radiator grille, and the boomerang-shaped lights extending up to the vehicle wings. Other distinctive features include the flag-shaped rearview mirrors on the front doors, which give prominence to the sides of the C4.
Looking beyond these shared attributes, CitroŽn is offering two clearly differentiated body styles :
ē a saloon of fluid, dynamic lines with strong curves
ē a coupť of longer, sharper lines with a plunging tail line.

In both cases: smoothly flowing contours with an ever-present emphasis on aerodynamics.

        A SALOON OF ASSERTIVE DESIGN

The C4 Saloon boasts smooth, protective bodywork, with unique exterior styling. Its profile is traced in a single line, with a strongly raked windscreen that extends the taut lines of the bonnet, before moving smoothly on to the curve of the roof.
Similarly, the high, arched waist line reinforces the feeling of safety and protection enjoyed by the passengers.
The harmonious design is combined with a long window line, which draws out the cabin and enhances the fluid lines of the saloon.
The body style of the C4 Saloon shows distinctive lines of force, which underline its dynamic character. In addition to the headlamps placed either side of the double chevron on the radiator grille, other particularly striking styling features include:
ē rear lights whose geometric shape expresses dynamic power. The lower part underlines the vehicleís stability, while the upper part runs along the rear window up to the lip at the top of the tailgate,
ē quarter windows and a waist line suggesting controlled power.

        A COUP… WITH A DIFFERENCE

The exterior styling of the C4 Coupť owes its force to its dynamic and fluid body lines, combining a long wheelbase and long front overhang with a short rear overhang.
The coupťís profile reflects the quest for optimised aerodynamics. The receding lines converging towards the rear of the vehicle suggest movement and fluidity. The waist line Ė slightly curved towards the rear Ė and the prominent wings, suggest stability and good roadholding.
The tight lines of the roof flowing towards the rear end with a sharply falling rear window offer a perfect fit between the geometric shape of the rear lights and the fluid lines of the coupť.
The C4 Coupť possesses a distinctive style, with a flowing, easily recognisable profile, and a reverse-sloping rear window with an astonishingly spacious passenger compartment. Its styling combines sportiness and interior space.

ARCHITECTURE COMBINING AERODYNAMIC DESIGN AND GENEROUS VOLUMES

The C4 was designed to meet stringent aerodynamic targets, while also offering class-leading space at front and rear.

        BEST Cd IN ITS CATEGORY

Easily identifiable as CitroŽn vehicles through their design lines and proportions, the C4 Saloon and C4 Coupť also embody one of the Marqueís traditional strengths: aerodynamics.
Extensive aerodynamic studies were conducted on the C4 in order to obtain a drag coefficient of up to 0.28 for the coupť, a record in this segment. The saloon boasts a Cd of up to 0.29.
These values promise acoustic comfort, along with reduced fuel consumption and lower pollutant emissions.

        They are achieved by:
The exceptionally fluid body styles featuring:
        ē limited height (1.46 m),
ē a windscreen placed well to the front, continuing the line of the bonnet,
ē a long roof with a dramatic drop at the rear,
ē sides narrowing at the rear.

The presence of exterior features designed to smooth air flow:
        ē flag-shaped exterior rearview mirrors,
ē aerodynamic undertrays to smooth out the airflow under the body,
ē a rear spoiler extending the flow-line of the roof to the maximum extent,
ē bumpers designed to improve the air flow over the wheels,
ē front windscreen wipers integrated in the scuttle aperture to avoid disrupting the air flow.

        CLASS-BEATING INTERIOR SPACE

In both saloon and coupť form, the C4 combines style and aerodynamics with a level of interior space that ranks it among the best in its segment.

Identical interior space on the saloon and the coupť

Although the C4 Saloon and the C4 Coupť are very different in terms of styling, they share the same interior space.
They have the same dimensions, viewed from the side, with a wheel base of 2.61 m and a height of 1.46 m. Only their length differs slightly (by 1.3 cm) owing to the style of the rear bumper.
        Generous interior dimensions

The interior dimensions of both vehicles meet customer requirements concerning the essentials of on-board comfort.
The two C4s are references in their segment concerning knee room
for passengers at the rear (17 cm when the front seat is pushed
        back to maximum).
In terms of elbow room at the front (1.44 m) and rear (1.43 m), the C4 is on a par with most of its competitors in this segment.

INNOVATIONS FOR ON-BOARD COMFORT AND RELAXED DRIVING

The interior of the C4 boasts a host of innovations in driving ergonomics, life on-board and functional convenience. In addition, the C4 is also available with an array of high-tech communication equipment.

        DRIVING ERGONOMICS

The C4 features a dashboard of clean design lines with a fixed-centred controls steering wheel that places driving aids within easy reach of the driver. At the same time, some of the instruments are positioned in the centre of the dashboard so that the passengers can contribute to the ride. With the C4, onboard comfort means safety and well-being.

The multifunctional fixed-centred controls steering wheel

The fixed centre of the steering wheel features the main comfort functions and driving aids. This layout places the emphasis on ergonomics and easy use, thus promoting driving pleasure.
ē A balanced distribution of controls

The steering wheel controls are split into four different areas, each with four buttons and a knob:
        ē the top right-hand area groups the radio controls, with volume and station settings, the memorised station search function, and the mute function;
        ē the bottom right-hand area provides access to the multifunction screen, with ó in particular ó the on-board computer and the NaviDrive navigation system;
        ē the top left-hand area is dedicated to the speed limiter and cruise control. If the driver opts for one of these driving aids, a pictogram will appear on the translucent instrument cluster, showing the mode selected and the programmed speed;
ē the bottom left-hand area groups the controls for vehicle options. For example, the voice control of the NaviDrive navigation system, the telephone controls, the driver-configured button offering ďblack panelĒ lighting as the default function, or the air recycling function.

The horn is on the lower part of the steering wheel.
Conventional driving functions (lighting and wiping) maintain their usual layout, with standard stalk switches.
        ē Driver-dedicated steering-wheel display

Driving information intended specifically for the driver is displayed immediately in front of him. This is the case, for example, of the rev counter, the indicator and headlamp settings, and the mode/gear speed selected on versions equipped with an automatic gearbox.
The background of the rev counter turns red to show that the engine has reached its maximum speed.
Fitted on the steering column, this display unit moves with the steering wheel to remain easily legible at all times.

        ē A host of advantages

The multifunctional fixed-centred controls steering wheel offers the following advantages:
        ē controls are grouped in the centre of the steering wheel, thus freeing up space on the dashboard, and giving it a simpler, uncluttered look;
        ē significant improvements in ergonomics, since the controls are grouped in a stable and easily accessible position, so that the driver does not have to take his hands off the wheel;
        ē as the controls are on the steering wheel, they remain easily visible, even at night, thanks to the use of illuminated pictograms;
ē in terms of safety, the fixed-centre design of the steering wheel makes it possible to install a shape-optimised driver airbag for improved driver protection.

        ē Easy operation

The main characteristic of the C4 steering wheel is its fixed hub. The centre of the wheel no longer turns with the rim. The technical principle is simple: a toothed ring linked to the steering wheel engages an inner pinion, itself linked to the steering column. The space between the ring and the pinion is used to couple the fixed components: the steering wheel hub and the steering column mounting.

A dashboard designed to promote relaxed driving and shared information

The clean, soft lines of the dashboard create an uncluttered look that is relaxing on the eye. Enhancing this effect, curves and relief are kept to a minimum. The choice of colours and materials reflects the same approach to design.
The dashboard is designed to share information, in the same way as on a people-carrier. The centre features three display units:
        ē a translucent instrument cluster,
ē a multifunction screen with the on-board computer and NaviDrive navigation system,
ē an air-conditioning display unit for vehicles equipped with automatic air conditioning.

        The central translucent instrument cluster

The instrument cluster displays information on a translucent strip located in the centre of the dashboard.

        ē Clear information

The translucent instrument cluster provides the following information:
        ē vehicle speed,
        ē petrol gauge and range,
        ē water temperature
        ē total and partial mileage,
ē information on the oil level,
ē speed settings for the cruise control and speed limiter,
        ē maintenance indicator.

Indicators corresponding to the child safety function, the seatbelt warning lights for the five seats, and ESP disablement are displayed on either side of the translucent instrument cluster.

        ē Perfect legibility

As the instrument cluster is located in the centre of the dashboard, the translucent strip captures the light perfectly. As the display contrast adjusts instantly to the light, legibility is perfect in all circumstances, by day and night, in full sunlight or in darkness.

        LIFE ON BOARD

The cabin of the C4 is designed to optimise passenger comfort. The cabin layout, the ergonomics and characteristics of the seats and the soundproofing Ė essential vehicle qualities Ė have all been addressed in such a way as to create a relaxing interior ambience.
In addition, the C4 features a range of equipment to create a feel-good ambience, such as the glazed panoramic roof and the scented air freshener.

        The scented air freshener

A scented air freshener, styled to match the dashboard design, also contributes to the relaxed onboard atmosphere.

ē A choice of nine fragrances

The air freshener is available with a choice of nine fragrances: Citrus and Passion, Amber and Sandalwood, Cinnamon and Ginger, Lotus flower, Vanilla, Jasmin and Mimosa, Soft Lavander, Mint and Musk, Ylang and Bamboo.
All these fragrances were developed by Robertet, a company specialising in the creation of perfumes.
Customers will receive a kit with three fragrances (Vanilla, Mint and Musk, Ylang and Bamboo) on delivery of their car.

        ē A fully integrated system

Placed on the central air vent, the scented air freshener diffuses the fragrance selected through the air conditioning system. A knob lets the user switch the system off or adjust the quantity of perfumed air.
The perfumes come in the form of sealed, individual cartridges, so the fragrance can be changed at any time.
A cartridge lasts around 45 days, based on three hours of daily use.
Refills are available from the CitroŽn network.

Seats tailored to a full range of tastes and body shapes

Looking beyond their styling, which is an explicit statement of their qualities, the seats of the C4 are designed to ensure an outstanding level of comfort as well as excellent support.

ē Firm support, adapted to everybodyís tastes

To reflect customersí tastes more effectively, the C4 is equipped with ďcomfortĒ or ďvitalityĒ seats, depending on the trim level selected.
ďComfortĒ seating ensures excellent damping and also provides sufficient support to hold the occupant firmly in place without becoming restrictive. Placing the emphasis on comfort in use, it is perfect for smooth, relaxed driving.
ďVitalityĒ seating is firmer to the touch with more pronounced support. It corresponds to the pursuit of stronger driving sensations and a more dynamic driving style.

        ē Pertinent settings

In addition to the conventional seat settings (fore-and-aft adjustment, angle of back rest), the C4 also includes a number of other settings to ensure that all the occupants can find a position to suit their body shape and driving habits:
ē steering wheel adjustable for height and reach,
ē a driverís seat adjuster that can be raised over 50 mm,
ē manual lumbar adjustment on the driverís seat.

The C4 can also be equipped with an electrically controlled driverís seat. In this case, the settings of the seats and exterior rearview mirrors can be memorised to enable different drivers to immediately find their preferred settings.

        Focus on acoustic comfort

To optimise acoustic comfort on board the C4, extensive studies were conducted on sealing, and sources of wind noise.
The main factors contributing to sound insulation are:
ē the flag-shaped exterior rearview mirrors,
ē the laminated windscreen with a damping film between two sheets of glass,
ē the thick glass used for the side windows (3.82 mm instead of the 3 mm usually found on vehicles in this segment),
ē the windscreen wipers integrated with the scuttle aperture,
        ē the anti-turbulence windscreen seal,
        ē the double door seals,
ē the treating and filling of box sections.

Available as an option, the laminated side windows reinforce the filtering of wind noise and external nuisances.

        Individual thermal comfort

To satisfy requests for individual comfort functions at the front, the C4 features automatic two-zone air conditioning. The driver and front passenger can then choose their own temperature settings.
The automatic air conditioning system is equipped with:
ē a particulate and pollutant gas filter,
ē an air recycling function, activated using controls on the steering wheel and air conditioning panel,
ē a heat-reflecting windscreen, which considerably increases the reflection of infrared rays.

        PRACTICAL CONVENIENCE

With its many stowage compartments, easily adaptable, modular passenger compartment and boot foldaway partition, the C4 is an easygoing car that adapts to the requirements and needs of the moment.

A host of practical and well designed stowage compartments

From the dashboard to the consoles and door panels, the interior of the C4 possesses generous stowage, including: a vast glove box, bins in the doors, can-holders, a drawer under the front passenger seat and nets on the backs of the front seats.
Evenly distributed around the passenger compartment, these stowage compartments were designed for practical use. The closed stowage compartments have a damped opening, the drawers are of the push/pull type and the ash tray is illuminated, as is the glovebox, which may also be cooled. Some stowage compartments are even intended for specific purposes, such as the bag hook on the passenger side of the central console or the overhead eyewear holder on the driverís side.
A number of stowage compartments are closed in order to maintain the ambient, uncluttered atmosphere. For example, the front central armrest, with fore-and-aft adjustment, has a stowage compartment for CDs or the CD stacker. The console is also equipped with a 12V socket and a cigarette lighter.
        Easy modularity

The C4 features a 60/40 split-folding rear seat back and cushions. Simple attachments make it easy to take advantage of the C4ís modular interior.
The seat backs unlock easily and can be folded down:
ē directly onto the seat cushions,
ē with the seat cushions raised, in order to obtain additional space and a virtually flat load floor,
ē using clips, after the fast-fit seat cushions are removed. In this configuration, the loading space extends up to the front seats.

        A new boot foldaway partition

The boot of the C4 features a new partitioning system. This system is designed to isolate and securely hold the objects placed in the boot.
A simple function lets the user fold out the partitions integrated in the boot sill to create three separate compartments.
When folded, these partitions disappear totally into the thickness of the boot sill. When partitioning is not used, the boot regains its full loading volume.
The boot of the C4 can also be fitted with a closed stowage bin on the sides, a stowage net and a range of hooks to hang bags up.

        HIGH-TECH COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT

To enhance onboard comfort, the driver can choose from a range of hightech equipment including:
ē the NaviDrive telematics system for stress-free driving,
ē the JBL hi-fi system for high-level acoustics,
ē the Bluetooth hands-free telephone system for safe communication.

        Stress-free driving with NaviDrive

The C4 is available with the new-generation NaviDrive telematics system.
It offers a number of essential functions: a GPS navigation system, a GSM dual-band hands-free telephone with access to the address book and audio system (radio and 5-CD stacker). At the same time, passengers can use the screen or voice synthesis function to read the SMS messages received over the phone.
The main functions can be accessed easily using the steering-wheel controls, which can also be used for the voice recognition and synthesis functions. NaviDrive can be controlled by the userís voice without any preliminary learning time. This feature is very useful for making phone calls, finding your way, or accessing the address book without risk. The system can also be controlled directly using the unit integrated with the dashboard.
The functions are displayed on a black-and-white screen or on a large 16:9 colour screen.
NaviDrive was also designed to offer a number of additional customer services: CitroŽn Emergency, CitroŽn Assistance and CitroŽn On Line.
Working with the GPS and telephone functions, CitroŽn Emergency makes it possible to locate the vehicle if the driver has an accident or is ill, for example, and to access the services of a call centre.

        A customised hi-fi function

JBL, one of the worldís leading audio specialists, has developed a hi-fi system specially for the C4. The new system is designed to offer customised acoustics of superb quality.
The hi-fi system comprises ten loudspeakers in six locations, together with a subwoofer that is fitted in the boot. The presence of the subwoofer in the boot provides wraparound sound quality and an extremely faithful reproduction of musical material.
The system is controlled by an amplifier located under the front passenger seat. This unit is parametered with the acoustic settings defined and optimised for the cabin of the C4. Both driver and passengers enjoy excellent sound quality, along with acoustic reproduction that is perfectly adapted to their environment in all circumstances.
Making telephone calls safely with Bluetooth

The C4 features a Bluetooth hands-free telephone system in which the address book is displayed on the vehicleís multifunction screen.
This hands-free telephone system, based on Bluetooth wireless technology, is integrated with the passenger compartment.
Bluetooth is a convenient and safe option for making personal in-car calls from a mobile phone, since the driver can make calls without taking the phone out of his pocket. In this way, he can make phone calls from the car without taking his eyes off the road or releasing the wheel.
To make a hands-free call, the driver uses the ergonomic control function on the wheel, and the microphone built into the roof. Conversations are relayed over the C4ís audio system.
The driver selects the name of a correspondent from the address book of his mobile phone, using the steering wheel controls. He can also use the ďvoice recognitionĒ function to initiate a call.
The phone directory and the name of the correspondent are displayed on the vehicleís multifunction screen.

        ENJOYABLE, RELAXED DRIVING

On-board comfort also means enjoyable, relaxed driving in all circumstances. For this reason, in addition to its widerange of new-generation engines, the C4 boasts a range of technological innovations designed to enhance driving comfort and so promote better vehicle control. With its advanced equipment and features, the C4 also offers highlevel active and passive safety, along with exceptionally polished road manners. New technologies have been applied systematically in all these areas, in order to develop new services and functions that provide the driver with more information, while letting him concentrate on the road.

        INNOVATIVE AND MODERN DRIVING AIDS

The C4 driver has access to a range of modern and innovative driving aids which, combined with the interior comfort and uncluttered design of the cabin, let him take to the road with a relaxed mind.

        The lane departure warning system

The lane departure warning system detects a lane change on a motorway or fast road from speeds of 80 kph. It warns the driver if the car crosses a continuous or dotted lane marking, if the indicator is not activated. A vibrating mechanism mounted in the car seat is activated on the side corresponding to the direction of vehicle drift, enabling the driver Ė who may have suffered a momentís distraction Ė to take corrective action in time.
Six pairs of infrared sensors located under the front bumper Ė three on either side Ė monitor and detect a lane change. Each pair is made up of an infrared emitting diode and a detection cell. The detection function relies on variations in the infrared beam reflected by the diode on the road surface.
A control unit receives the information and activates a vibration mechanism in the driverís seat, on the side corresponding to the drift. Alerted by the vibrations on the left- or right-hand side, the driver can then steer the car back on course. This system, which can be activated or deactivated from the dashboard does not disturb the passengers, and leaves the driver free to perform manoeuvres.
Taking a significant step forward in terms of safety, this innovation is one of the solutions developed to make up for a loss of concentration or a momentís distraction on the part of the driver.

        Xenon dual-function directional headlamps

The C4 is also available with a feature that remains rare in this segment: Xenon dualfunction directional headlamps (low beam and high beam).
When the car takes a corner, the beam lights up the inside of the curve, illuminating areas that were previously in darkness. The beam is angled by up to 15į (8į for the headlamp on the outside of the bend, and up to 15į for the headlamp on the inside). This feature allows the driver to see where he is going and to distinguish other road users and possible obstacles. This is an important advantage in terms of safety since, at a speed of 110 kph, the car covers more than 30 metres every second. When CitroŽn developed this function for the DS, the controls were mechanical. Today, they rely on electronics.
This swivelling beam enhances the lighting quality of the Xenon dual-function discharge lamps, which are active in both the low-and high-beam positions.
By improving driver visibility and reducing visual fatigue, this feature brings significant gains in safety and driving pleasure.

        Front and rear parking assistance

The C4 brings customers an effective parking aid, with the introduction of front parking assistance, alongside the rear parking assistance function.
The sensors work in the same way at the front as at the back. Four sensors located in the bumper inform the driver that an obstacle is present in their detection area when vehicle speed is lower than around 10 kph. Depending on the position of the obstacle, the system emits a series of beeps that gradually become more frequent as the car approaches the obstacle, becoming a continuous signal when it is just a few centimetres away.
The system lets the driver view the distance separating the car from the obstacles at both front and rear. The multifunction screen displays the silhouette of the vehicle, along with six detection areas.
The parking assistance function can be disabled from the dashboard.

Cruise control and the speed limiter

Cruise control and the speed limiter round out the list of new comfort and safety equipment.
Cruise control lets the driver keep the car going at a programmed speed without using the accelerator pedal.
With the speed limiter, the driver defines a maximum speed not to be exceeded, whatever the position of his foot on the accelerator. If he wishes to exceed this speed from time to time, he stamps down on the pedal in order to pass the hard spot marking the end-of-travel point of the accelerator.
For the cruise control and the speed limiter, the driver simply programmes a required speed using the function on the fixed-centred controls steering wheel. A readout on the translucent instrument cluster then shows the programmed speed and the status (active/inactive) of each system.

        The low tyre-pressure warning system
Already present on the C5 and the C8, the low tyre-pressure warning function enhances the range of safety equipment present on the C4. This system measures the pressure of all four tyres. Each tyre is fitted with an emitter and a pressure sensor, which sends information to the central control unit. When one of the tyres drops below its preset pressure level, a message immediately flashes up on the multifunction screen to warn the driver. At the same time, a buzzer sounds. In the event of a puncture, the ďStopĒ indicator will also come on. In this way, this feature detects any under-inflation that could have an adverse impact on the carís stability and on the safety of the occupants.
In addition to improving safety, this function also encourages the driver to check tyres regularly and to correct inflation levels. These checks bring gains in terms of reduced driving noise, fuel consumption and tyre wear.

A WIDE RANGE OF ENGINES OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Right from launch, the C4 is available with a wide choice of new-generation engines. The range is organised around five petrol engines, including the new 143 bhp 2.0i recently introduced on the C5, and three HDi diesel engines developed through the cooperation project with Ford. They include the HDi 92 Ė fitted for the first time on a PSA Peugeot CitroŽn vehicle Ė and the new HDi 110 and HDi 138 recently introduced in the CitroŽn range.
Most of these engines already satisfy the Euro IV emission standard. With the C4, CitroŽn is also expanding the range of vehicles equipped with the diesel particulate filter system (DPFS). This technology adds to the advantages of HDi engines in terms of environmental protection.

        FIVE PETROL ENGINES FROM LAUNCH

Five petrol engines are available: the 1.4i 16V (90 bhp DIN), the 1.6i 16V (110 bhp DIN), the 2.0i 16V (138 bhp DIN), the new 2.0i 16V (143 bhp DIN) recently introduced on the C5 and available with the C4 Saloon, and the 2.0i 16V (180 bhp DIN), installed on a CitroŽn vehicle Ė the C4 Coupť Ė for the first time. All the engines feature a cylinder head with a double overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder and a motor-driven throttle, controlled electrically by the engine control unit. All the engines are equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, except for the 143 bhp 2.0i 16V engine, which is coupled with an automatic gearbox. The 110 bhp 1.6i 16V engine is also available with an automatic gearbox.

The 1.4i 16V engine is the entry-level model. It develops 65 kW EEC (90 bhp DIN) at 5,250 rpm and maximum torque of 133 Nm at 3,250 rpm. It features continuously variable valve timing (VVT) to optimise filling of the combustion chambers at all engine speeds. Variable valve timing offers more torque at low engine speeds. Torque of 118 Nm Ė 90% of maximum torque Ė is available from 1,800 rpm, thus contributing to the respect of the Euro IV emission standard. The angular variation with respect to crankshaft timing is managed by the engine control unit, in line with the engine oil temperature, engine load and speed.
This engine also features a stiffened cylinder block to meet high standards of acoustic comfort. Fuel consumption is low (6.4 l/100 km over a standard combined cycle), and emissions satisfy the future Euro IV standard.

The 1.6i 16V engine develops 80 kW EEC (110 bhp DIN) at 5,800 rpm and maximum torque of 147 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Highly responsive from the lowest engine speeds, this engine offers torque of 132 Nm Ė90% of the maximum amount Ė from 2,000 rpm. This mid-range engine strikes an excellent balance between performance and fuel consumption in combined use (7.1 l/100 km over a standard combined cycle).

The 2.0i 16V engine develops 100 kW EEC (138 bhp DIN) at 6,000 rpm with torque of 190 Nm at 4,100 rpm. The high engine torque available from low engine speeds ensures a smooth response to driver input. This engine offers torque of 165 Nm from 2,000 rpm, almost 87% of the maximum torque available.
The power of the engine combined with the strong, steady increase in engine speed make the C4 138 bhp 2.0i 16V a pleasant and relaxing drive, offering superior responsiveness and acoustics.

The 2.0i 16V engine is also available with the C4 Saloon, in a version offering output of 103 kW EEC (143 bhp DIN) at 6,000 rpm. It is coupled with an automatic gearbox. Recently introduced on the C5, this new version of the 2.0i 16V engine offers maximum torque of 200 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It features continuously variable valve timing (VVT) to optimise filling of the combustion chambers at all engine speeds. This engine offers torque of 170 Nm from 2,000 rpm, almost 85 % of the maximum torque available.
It also meets the requirements of the Euro IV emission standard.

The 2.0i 16V engine, developing 130 kW EEC (180 bhp DIN) at 7,000 rpm is the most powerful engine in the range. The C4 Coupť is the first CitroŽn vehicle to offer this engine. This engine combines dynamic driving thrills with a high level of safety and daily comfort of use. Maximum torque is 202 Nm at 4,750 rpm. On this engine, the intake camshaft is also equipped with a continuously variable valve timing system. This characteristic makes for a powerful, responsive engine.

THREE DIESEL ENGINES OFFERING EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE AND FUEL CONSUMPTION

The C4ís three HDi engines are all equipped with secondgeneration common-rail. The HDi 92 is making its debut on a PSA Peugeot CitroŽn Group vehicle, while the new HDi 110 and HDi 138 engines were recently introduced in the CitroŽn range.
The characteristics and performance of these compact, lowweight engines are exceptional: driving pleasure, reduced fuel consumption and pollutant emissions are combined with acoustic comfort and vibration control. The engines are also remarkable for their verve, and for the temporary torque increase of 20 Nm made available by the overboost function, which is present on the two most powerful versions.
The HDi 138 engine is coupled with the six-speed manual gearbox, recently introduced on the C5.

The new 1.6. HDi 16V engine develops 66 kW EEC (92 bhp DIN) at 4,000 rpm and torque of 215 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Based on the HDi 110, this ďall-aluminiumĒ engine is making its debut in the CitroŽn range. With low fuel consumption (4.7 l/100 km over a standard combined cycle) and CO2 emissions of just 125 g/km, this engine satisfies the Euro IV standard.

The 1.6 HDi engine is also available in a version offering output of 80 kW EEC (110 bhp) at 4,000 rpm, introduced on the Xsara Picasso in February 2004. It supplies maximum torque of 240 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Torque can be increased to 260 Nm at 1,750 rpm on the three highest gears, thanks to the overboost function.
For strong bursts of acceleration, the ďoverboostĒ function kicks in, delivering up to 20 Nm of additional torque by increasing the fuel injection rate. This new engine therefore combines a fast response with a linear increase in power, and excellent acceleration at low engine speeds.
The HDi 110 features a second-generation injection system delivering injection pressure of 1,650 bars, controlled by piezoelectric-type injectors. A variable-geometry turbocharger enhances driving pleasure and performance. This engine makes full use of the potential offered by the common-rail system with its multiple injection technology and the enhanced management of fuel injection into each cylinder, providing four injections per engine cycle:
ē two pilot injections to reduce combustion noise
ē two main injections to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions at source.

Moreover, two additional post-injections improve the regeneration efficiency of the particulate filter.
As a result of its low fuel consumption Ė 4.7 l/100 km over a standard combined cycle Ė and its 60-litre tank, this engine offers a range of more than 1,200 km. CO2 emissions are also very low, at 125 g/km.
The Euro IV version, available in some countries from the launch of the C4, is equipped with the diesel particulate filter system (DPFS), which traps and destroys particulates.

The 2.0 HDi engine complies with the Euro IV standard and is coupled with the diesel particulate filter system (DPFS). It develops 100 kW EEC (138 bhp) at 4,000 rpm. Offering maximum torque of 320 Nm at 2,000 rpm, it also features an overboost function that raises torque temporarily to 340 Nm. This new engine is coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox already available with the C5.

The HDi 138, like the HDi 110, features a second-generation injection system and a variable-geometry turbocharger.

        IMPECCABLE ROAD MANNERS

To keep the car under control at all times, the C4 driver can rely on efficient running gear, along with high-performance braking functions for advanced safety.
        Efficient running gear

The running gear of the C4 offers precise handling, while also effectively contributing to active safety. The front suspension features a MacPherson type strut with lower wishbones and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension features a flexible transverse beam associated with an anti-roll bar.
Damping control is adapted to optimise the balance between comfort and handling.
Depending on the level of trim and the engine, the C4 is available with 15-inch wheels and 195/65R15 tyres, 16-inch wheels with 205/55R16 tyres, or 17-inch wheels with 205/50R17 tyres.
Variable-assistance power steering is standard. The level of assistance is linked to engine speed in order to obtain a level of power adapted to conditions of vehicle use. Power steering is firmer at high engine speeds for increased safety, and lighter at low engine speeds for easy manoeuvring.

        High-performance brakes

The C4ís braking system features ventilated discs at the front and discs at the rear, combined with EBS and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).
To further improve braking safety, the C4 is fitted as standard with emergency braking assistance (EBA) and automatic hazard warning lights.
ESP (electronic stability programme) is also available with all engines. It is coupled with traction control to prevent skidding.
This systems can be disconnected with the 180 bhp 2.0i 16V engine.
        HIGH-LEVEL PASSIVE SAFETY

The C4 boasts a wide array of passive safety features. It boasts the worldís first shape-optimised driver airbag. This feature, which relies on the fixed central section of the steering wheel, improves driver protection. The C4 also offers reinforced protection in the event of frontal impact, and a design that reflects efforts to address pedestrian impact.
For increased security, the C4 is also well protected against theft and break-in.
A complete, reliable range of passive safety equipment
The C4 offers the following main passive safety features:
        ē a shape-optimised driver airbag for improved driver protection;
ē driver and passenger dual-stage front airbags.

This system adapts to the severity of impact: if impact is minor, only one stage of the airbag will deploy, for high-level protection.
        ē curtain airbags standard at front and rear;
        ē driver and passenger chest airbags standard at front;
ē seatbelts with three anchor points, a force limiter and a warning light for all seats.
The front seatbelts are fitted with pyrotechnic pretensioners and are heightadjustable on the saloon.
ē Isofix anchor points at the rear side seats.

        A protective, reinforced structure

ē Improved cabin protection in the event of frontal impact

To satisfy the most stringent passive safety evaluation requirements, CitroŽn conducted extensive studies on protection from frontal impact.
ē The C4 features an additional impact absorbing system on the lower part of the front end to dissipate energy more effectively in the event of frontal impact.
ē This absorbing system is made up of a lower front bumper beam, along with subframe extensions.
ē The mechanical resistance of the front suspension and the lower subframe has been optimised to enable, for example, energy to be transmitted under the body in the event of frontal impact.
ē Studies were conducted on the movement of hard incompressible parts in the engine compartment in order to limit intrusions into the cabin.
ē The front doors have been reinforced in order to better stiffen the whole.

Moreover, to reduce repair costs following minor impacts, the C4 features plastic front wings and an aluminium front upper bumper beam, which is integral with the impact absorbers. In the event of impact, the beam and impact absorbers crumple, without damaging the cantrails. The same is true for the lower bumper beam, which will crumple without damaging the engine subframe or its extensions.

        ē Focus on pedestrian protection

The C4 is designed to reduce the consequences of possible pedestrian impact.
The subframe is equipped with two impact absorbers (one on the top part of the front end, the other on the lower part) to limit knee injury.
Studies also focused on achieving a non-aggressive front end.
For example, the boomerang-shaped headlamps are not only a key styling trait on the C4. They also contribute to pedestrian protection, since the headlamps are no longer on the top part of the bonnet, which is made of aluminium in order to absorb energy more effectively.

Increased protection against theft and break-in

The C4 offers excellent protection against theft and break-in. Key features are as follows:
ē side laminated glazing to protect the occupants and their property,
        ē deadlocking,
ē a perimetric and volumetric alarm,
ē an engine immobiliser and transponder,
ē an unpickable electric boot lock,
ē antitheft nuts on each alloy wheel,
ē automatic relocking thirty seconds after the vehicle is unlocked if no door is opened,
ē automatic locking of the doors and boot as soon as the car starts to move.

The C3 Pluriel now comes with a HDi 70 engine and new equipment in the form of Sport, Alu and Leather packs. The Xsara range features a new special series Xsara ďTendanceĒ Estate, the Xsara Picasso is now available with the HDi 110 engine and a reversing radar, and the partnership between CitroŽn and Carlsson has been renewed with the launch of the new CitroŽn C5. Like the C5, C3 and the new C4, the C8 now comes with the NaviDrive system which offers an additional range of services: CitroŽn Emergency, CitroŽn Local Assistance, CitroŽn On line.

The Paris Motor Show provides a showcase for CitroŽnís know-how and its capacity to address ever more demanding customer needs, but also for concept cars, such as the C-Airlounge, that offer a foretaste of vehicle design and technologies in years to come.

CitroŽn is also presenting a concept that has now become a reality: the C4 WRC based on the C4 CitroŽn Sport concept car. Currently in its development phase, the C4 WRC should make its racing debut at the end of the next season, replacing the Xsara WRC in the World Rally Championship from 2006.

The Xsara WRC proved a worthy contender in 2003, offering CitroŽn the Manufacturerís title in the World Rally Championship. It will pursue its successful racing career this year, aiming for a dual Manufacturerís and Driversí title with Sťbastien Loeb-Daniel Elena and Carlos Sainz-Marc Marti.

Looking beyond the Paris Motor Show, CitroŽnís know-how will be on permanent display from 2006 in a prestigious building located at 42 Avenue des Champs Elysťes in Paris, dedicated entirely to the culture and heritage of the double chevron brand.

Information on the progress of construction work will be posted on CitroŽnís new website (www.citroen.com) launched during the 2004 Paris Motor Show. The new-look corporate site adopts a whole new approach and offers a very different vision of the world of CitroŽn.

CITROňN C5: A NEW ALLIANCE IN STYLING, TECHNOLOGY AND COMFORT

Maintaining its market momentum, CitroŽn is presenting the C5 Ė its new offering on the mid-/upper-range segment. This "intelligent" road car, available in saloon and estate versions, combines styling, interior space and performance.
With its promising styling and strong personality, the CitroŽn C5 is in a class of its own. It features a wide array of technologies and innovation for exemplary well-being and safety.
Like the CitroŽn C4, the C5 features the latest high-performance driving aids, such as Xenon dual-function directional headlamps, front parking assistance, a speed limiter and a new lane departure warning system.
In terms of safety, the CitroŽn C5 also features new-generation ESP to correct the vehicle's course with precision and efficiency, and a new steering column airbag to protect the driver's knees and shins.
The CitroŽn C5 offers a level of interior comfort worthy of a high-spec model, with laminated side windows and a hydractive suspension that actively filters out imperfections in the road surface to offer unequalled comfort.
Inside the car, the generous cabin space is an invitation to travel, and to enjoy driving Ė and travelling Ė sensations to the full.
Offering a range of engines adapted to all types of driving, the CitroŽn C5 embodies a new alliance in styling, technology and comfort.

C2 VTS: VITALITY, PERSONALITY AND APPEAL

CitroŽn is fleshing out its C2 range with a more sporty version, the C2 VTS. The arrival of this new version is a natural step forward for the range.
The C2 VTS is fitted with a new 125 bhp 1.6i 16V engine, coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This high-performance powerplant is combined with a sound, well balanced chassis.

The exterior styling of this new version underlines the sporty body style of the C2, with painted parts on the lower front bumper and lower body, and a rear spoiler. The car's strong personality is further emphasised by special alloy wheels, a chrome-plated exhaust rod and a VTS badge.

The passenger compartment of the C2 VTS features a sporty new design with black seats, translucent door handles in a new shade of mineral grey, a leather steering wheel and an aluminium pedal assembly.

The C2 VTS is designed for customers looking for strong sensations and driving pleasure. It also sets high standards in comfort and safety for everyday use. It is fitted with ESP and air-conditioning as standard, along with other features such as fog lamps and power rearview mirrors.

It produces around 20% fewer CO2 emissions than petrol, with no sulphur oxides or
